HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) have recently started to rollout Simple Assessment notices to many taxpayers, this is a pre-calculated notice of tax due which negates the need for taxpayers to fill out a self-assessment form.

Taxpayers are urged to check the details and calculations carefully.  Whilst the Simple Assessment notice is hopefully accurate for individuals with straightforward income, it is not yet clear how accurate these notices will be for taxpayers who need to take deductions, and have secondary income sources e.g. pensions, rental income etc.

Once the Simple Assessment is received by the taxpayer, they only have 60 days to raise a query, and provide evidence for any figures that need to be amended.

For more information and/or assistance with Simple Assessment notices, please contact us.
