HMRC is to launch a direct selling campaign aimed at those who sell products direct to customers without the need for a shop. This could include agents, consultants, representatives or distributors of products. Direct selling could be undertaken as a part time or full time activity, perhaps door to door, or via catalogues, and often results in some form of commission being received by the seller.

HMRC is urging direct sellers who have not declared income to come forward and settle outstanding tax liabilities voluntarily. The direct selling campaign follows previous campaigns targeting tutors and coaches, electricians and online sellers.
