HMRC’s latest tax taskforce initiative will target London lawyers, grocery and retail businesses in Wales, hair and beauty businesses in the North East, restaurants in the South East and Solent and the motor industry in Scotland.
These are the latest industry and location specific targets of the wider taskforce initiative where HMRC are targeting those who are evading tax. HMRC will conduct compliance checks as well as announced and unannounced visits. HMRC hope that businesses in the target industries will come forward voluntarily to settle outstanding tax liabilities and then pursue those who don’t. HMRC have said that they are on target to collect more than £50 million as a result of taskforces launched in 2011/12.
