‘My wife was seeing aliens and wouldn’t let me in the house’ has been reported by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) as being one of the worst tax return excuses in the last year!

The list, released in advance of the 31 January deadline included:

‘I’ve been far too busy touring the country with my one-man play’

‘My ex-wife left my tax return upstairs, but I suffer from vertigo and can’t go upstairs to retrieve it’

‘My business doesn’t really do anything’

‘I spilt coffee on it’

HMRC are clearly not impressed with such excuses, so if you do need advice/assistance please contact
